Interests:
My interest lies in applications of Machine Learning/Deep Learning to real-world messy datasets. I am passionate about working with the people on the ground — I have collaborated with robotics-experts, cosmologists, transport experts, biologists and now clinicians on getting value out of raw data.
Research Themes:
I am currently engaged on the SCANDAN project, which seeks to identify if clinically-acquired brain-scans (MRI/CT) can be used to predict the risk of future onset of dementia. This involves the curation of a Scotland-wide dataset of brain imaging. In general, I deal with:
- Understanding the raw data and the assumptions/constraints under which it is collected
- Curating a navigable dataset that is parseable and searchable
- Deep-Learning approaches to extracting meaningful signals towards predicting the risk of dementia from brain scans alone.
