Research Themes:
The safety of contact sport participation has recently been questioned amid growing evidence that exposure to repeated head impacts is linked to impaired cognitive function and neurodegenerative disease later in life. As such my research focuses on investigating the acute effects of repetitive sub-concussive head impacts on the brain. Particularly, I research how soccer heading affects corticomotor inhibition using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Additional measures that I record include cognitive function (memory) and motor control.
