Courtesy of Dr Ourania Varsou and Dr Filip Zmuda (and photographer Prof Dave Wyper), this month’s image was captured at their wedding on 3rd July at the House for an Art Lover in Glasgow. Ourania was a PhD student in Neuroscience at the University of Aberdeen from 2011 to 2014 and Filip was a PhD student in Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow from 2012 to 2015. They first met in 2012 at a SINAPSE student induction event at The Burn in Angus (an annual occasion during the first phase of SINAPSE), and it was at the 2013 induction event at The Burn when they began dating as a couple.
Prof Wyper was a guest at their wedding, and as a gift from SINAPSE he presented the couple with the framed photo seen in the image above, taken at the 2013 induction event. The photo (below) includes the following event attendees from L to R: Filip Zmuda, Stephen Thompson, Xenios Milidonis, Dr Qingzhi Zhang, Catarina Fernandes, Dorota Chapko, Joel Parkinson, Ourania Varsou, Jill Magee, Jonathan Murnane.
Although matchmaking is not among the key outcomes on which SINAPSE reports to its stakeholders, we are delighted that Ourania and Filip were brought together through our network and we wish them the very best for a happy and loving future together! Ourania now works as a Lecturer in Human Anatomy and Dissecting Room Lead at the University of St Andrews, and Filip now works as an Assay Development Scientist for the Wellcome Trust at the University of Dundee.
