Congratulations to Profesor David Newby’s team in Edinburgh, including Edwin van Beek, the SINAPSE Professor of Clinical Radiology, for their paper in the Lancet, November 11, 2013. The SINAPSE award from SFC was instrumental in bringing to Scotland the skills needed for PET and it is good that we are now starting to see the benefits. Tribute should also be paid to Dr Christophe Lucatelli and his staff in the radiochemistry lab. Without their expertise and dedication this work would not have been possible.
In a prospective trial of 80 patients the researchers demonstrated that 18F-NaF-PET-CT is the first non-invasive imaging method to identify and localise ruptured and high risk coronary plaque.
