Dr Christine Démoré, who has been an active SINAPSE member in ultrasound research at the University of Dundee, is moving to a position at the Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada. Professor George Corner wrote this note of appreciation for Christine:

There are often mixed feelings when a colleague moves on and that is definitely the case with Dr Christine Démoré leaving Dundee. At the start of the month Christine with husband Charles and daughter Naomi moved back to Canada.

Latterly, Christine was Royal Society of Edinburgh Personal Biomedical Research Fellow. She had been in Dundee for almost ten years and before that in the University of the West of Scotland. Christine has a world class track record in ultrasound research, particularly on high frequency in medical imaging, devices and cell manipulation including the real “Sonic Screwdriver”. She will be a “saire loss” to Dundee and the wider ultrasound community in Scotland.

However, as I said – there are mixed feelings – as she is moving to a senior position in the prestigious Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and intends to continue collaboration with us in Scotland. This opens up opportunities for research and translational collaboration in both countries and will build on some existing links.

Christine will be missed for much more than her research. Colleagues appreciate the sincere friendship of Charles and Christine and students the inspirational guidance and mentoring she has provided to many over the years. It make such a difference to students when they know they matter.

One chapter has closed, a new one has opened. We wish Christine, Charles and Naomi success, happiness and health in their new adventure and look forward to continuing collaboration.
