A research technician position is available for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the research and development (R&D) team working on preclinical PET/CT imaging at the University of Edinburgh. This post aims to support small animal research ongoing within the Tavares group, as part of continuing efforts to develop new PET imaging probes.
We are looking for someone with experience in non-surgical and surgical in vivo procedures in rodents as well as competence in handling of rodents, administration of substances, withdraw of fluids, tissue sampling, weighing, scoring and experimental monitoring. Expertise in basic laboratory procedures, experience in laboratory technical support and outstanding organizational skills are key to this post.
Currently, the Tavares group works on various R&D projects focused on developing the next generation of PET probes and techniques. This post will work on a project aiming to investigate the role of fibrosis in cardiovascular disease by developing and validating new PET probes targeting collagen biosynthesis.
The preclinical PET/CT labs are state-of-the-art facilities for molecular imaging research using different radiotracers. Resources available in the microPET/CT laboratory allow for in vivo imaging studies in rodents targeting different systems and various research questions, as well as, ex vivo/in vitro imaging of human tissue samples and organs. In addition to the preclinical PET/CT scanner, available infrastructure for R&D in PET imaging includes an onsite cyclotron and three hot cells for production of radiotracers. This multi-million infrastructure has recently expanded with the addition of the new radiometabolite laboratory for analysis of radiotracer metabolism in blood and tissue samples.
The position is initially a fixed-term appointment for 36 months with possibility for extension.
