This is an exciting opportunity for a full time Clinical Research Fellow, currently trained in medicine or and allied health profession (such as psychology, radiography, nursing, therapy professionals), to work towards a PhD in the University of Edinburgh. There is a shortage of researchers trained in both abnormal brain blood vessels (traditionally ‘stroke’ researchers) and dementia (traditionally ‘dementia’ researchers). The fellows will be part of a partnership between supervisors from ‘stroke’ backgrounds and from ‘dementia’ backgrounds in a University where both are strong. There is major expertise in small vessel diseases, to bridge this divide.

Funded by the Alzheimer’s Society and the University of Edinburgh, the selected fellow will be able to choose one of two PhD projects, in laboratory-based science, working with Professors Anna Williams, Giles Hardingham (Associate Director, Dementia Research Institute), Colin Smith and Karen Horsburgh. The successful fellow will be based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh site. The post is available from Spring 2020 for 3 years.

Please contact Dr William Whiteley william.whiteley@ed.ac.uk if you wish to discuss the post informally.
