Interests:
Jennifer Macfarlane is a Clinical Scientist based at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where she supports both research and clinical MRI. Her current interests are in functional neuroimaging and breast MR. She has implemented simultaneous EEG-fMRI studies, set up numerous fMRI studies for researchers from the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews, and worked with local clinicians to introduce clinical pre-surgical fMRI. She works with both academic and clinical partners to expand the use of MRI in patient care. She was involved in SINAPSE when it first started, became an executive member for Dundee in 2018 and worked closely with the SINAPSE Lead Scientist to bring together a successful 2019 ASM in Dundee. She has taken on the role of SINAPSE Director as of April 2020.
Dr Macfarlane acts as an MR Safety Expert for NHS Tayside, with responsibility for the Clinical Research Imaging Facility. She is a Corresponding Member of the IPEM MR-SIG, having spent five years as a full member and is a member of NHS Tayside’s Healthcare Scientist Forum. She has an interest in online training materials, having written the SINAPSE Basic MRI eLearning module, and is part of the Generic Online MR Safety Training Working Party. She studied and trained as a medical physicist in Glasgow. Her PhD research was in the field of visual electrophysiology, optimising acquisition techniques for multifocal Visual Evoked Cortical Potentials, at the University of Glasgow. She has worked in Nuclear Medicine and MRI in both Glasgow and Dundee.
